Moses Hutch is charming and vulnerable. A widower, a self-help writer, and the father of a deeply disturbed Angie Hutch. Following a violent incident, he decides it's time he put his years of self-development training to use and make his daughter his ultimate focus. He needs her to be better; and believes he is the only capable person to reach her.
Angie is not your conventional Monster and to describe her as high-maintenance would be putting it lightly. She is an 8-year-old with a facial disfigurement that perfectly matches her rage and menace. She is unnaturally resilient with the strength of a large mammal. Like any child she is curious about things that are not at first apparent to her. Unfortunately what interests her is not school, but human anatomy. She delights in the sounds of flesh tearing from the body. For she is cruel and apathetic and quite deranged.
Cedar Voz is a librarian in the small prairie town of Lenore, Saskatchewan. Years of, "Maybe I'll get away soon" has turned into, "Why bother?" She is content in her life as the proverbial spinster. Much of her time is spent with her best friend Becky at the local tavern or watching movies together with Becky's son, Hunter. Despite her day job, Cedar would just as likely be found roofing a neighbours house as she would sorting by the dewey decimal system.
